Hello dear friends and family! 

I want to invite you to participate in Student Action with Farmworkers' Farmworker Awareness Campaign, a grassroots fundraising drive to support our work for greater respect and justice for farmworkers. SAF is a non-profit organization whose mission is to bring students and farmworkers together to learn about each other’s lives, share resources and skills, improve conditions for farmworkers, and build diverse coalitions working for social change.

12 years ago, I participated as a Student Action with Farmworkers (SAF) intern in the peach fields of South Carolina and it was one of the most memorable moments of my life.  I served with 29 other interns – 20 of whom were the children of migrant farmworkers themselves and the first in their families to go to college.  To say it was transformational experience is an understatement.  SAF is one of the best non-profit organizations I have ever been involved with – and that says a lot given my years in the social sector.

Farmworkers are the source of our food, yet they are among the least paid and most exploited workers in America.  For many of us, we don’t even know they exist.  Their migrant camps in the South and West are strategically hidden from view.  The migrant nature of their work means their children are often unable to gain a steady education and have no other option but to continue in the same type of work.

SAF helps to empower the next generation of youth leaders, particularly those from farmworker families, to give back through educational, health and safety and legal support for these communities.  SAF helps to bring a voice to a population that is literally hidden from view – out of sight and out of mind in this country.

I believe so strongly in this cause, I am committing $250 of my own money towards my campaign, to which my employer Adobe will match my donation 1:1.  So I’m already at $500 raised of my $1,000 goal!  50% done…Help me get to the final 50%.  Consider this my Christmas or birthday gift.  Any amount will help, nothing is too little.
