Hello friends and family! 

Happy Thanksgiving! I'm writing to invite you to participate in Student Action with Farmworkers' Farmworker Awareness Campaign, a grassroots fundraising drive to support our work for greater respect and justice for farmworkers. My goal is to raise a minimum of $500.

I am excited to support this organization and I need your help! This semester, I have been working with SAF as an intern to increase public support and demand better living and working conditions for farmworkers. I began working with farmworkers and farmworker justice after I visited a North Carolina labor camp two years ago. I was shocked and appalled when I learned how farmworkers were treated in the US. Even though farm work is one of the most dangerous jobs, it is also the least protected and regulated. Legally children as young as 12 can work in the fields, and many farmworkers have to deal with pesticide poisoning, frequent injuries, and overwork. Here are some photos from my visit:

Since my visit I have worked on several farmworker justice campaigns including the Reynolds Tobacco campaign. Now, my time at SAF allows me to work with farmworkers by educating the public on farmworker issues. The internship has taught me so many skills, and I truly believe SAF is an amazing organization.

Please take the time this Thanksgiving to reflect on the farmworkers who provide us with our Thanksgiving meal. I am so grateful to be able to go home this week and celebrate Thanksgiving with my family and friends, but can't help but think about how most farmworkers are immigrants and can't go home to share a meal with their families like I can. I want for farmworkers what I myself have- food, a home, family, friends and the ability to live and work with dignity.

My goal is to raise a minimum of $500 to support SAF's work. I would love if you could contribute and remember the farmworkers who work long and hard hours to support us every day.
